Round 2 – Ding!
April 1st, 2009
The Alabama House of Representatives is set to reconsider Rep. Knight’s Food Tax Bill today when it convenes at 4 p.m. The bill is currently slated to be the first bill considered on the body’s Special Order Calendar.
HB116 was also considered by house members last Tuesday, March 24, 2009, when it was unable to receive the 59 votes needed to be debated by the House of Representatives prior to the passage of the state budgets. The bill failed with only 56 members voting in favor of its consideration. The legislation, a constitutional amendment, will ultimately require 63 affirmative votes for final passage to allow Alabama voters the right to finally determine the grocery tax issue.
